Ubuntu Jeos 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) VMWare Player Appliance
About
This VM image is the default install of Ubuntu Jeos 7.10, with just two changes:
- generic kernel instead of server kernel
- /lib/linux-restricted-modules deleted (shouldn't be needed in vmware player)
The resulting image is 79MB.
(By comparison, the official Ubuntu 7.10 server vm is 216MB, and won't boot
on vmware player.)

describes the exact steps used to generate this small VM image, and
the bugs it works around.
It takes only about 15 minutes to follow, so to amuse yourself,
you might consider following the recipe while downloading the image,
to see which finishes first.

Decompress with 7zip (on Ubuntu, "apt-get install p7zip; p7zip -d *.7z")
Configuration
Log in with 'notroot', 'notpass'.
Everything is left at the default settings, you'll need to do all
configuration yourself.
