Temporary Picasa movie test page

Intro

We should be able to get these movies to play. I started with Maarten's Wine tree. (HEAD = commit d5f8a4ca5e6980f33bd42463627b031b58618548), installed the public version of Picasa (57.24) into a clean .wine directory, and installed ffdshow from 2008/07/05.

My test machines are a Ubuntu Dapper machine with dual head (nvidia), and a Ubuntu Hardy virtual machine running in VMWare, using the "vmware" driver. Both machines are configured for 24 bpp.

Results

Initial results from 2008/10/09

Good

Most of the videos play, with sound.
Most of the videos get thumbnails.
I can resize the window and the video gets resized correctly.
I can pause and seek without problems.

Bad

Picasa crashed on the Hardy machine when trying to play any movie. We're crashing in VMRWindowlessContro_SetVideoPosition() when we try to access This->ddraw_surfaces[0] because ddraw_surfaces is NULL.
Update 2008/11/04: In vmr.c, MessageLoop(), we need to do SetEvent(This->ack); after we do DestroyWindow(This->hwnd_mine).
Picasa doesn't exit, I keep on getting:

I don't even have the play a movie - just getting them scanned will cause it. I think test_sound.avi is the one causing the problem -- we should be able to deal with bad / weird movie files.
Update 2008/11/04: we can break the infinite loop after N tries in pin.c, PullPin_Thread_Process().
Added 2008/11/04: Picasa3.exe hangs around for about 1 minute, after quitting out of it - the window has been destroyed, but you can't start Picasa again until the existing process dies. (Probably due to bad movies)

Minor

Sound in PointerFunCBig.avi is playing too fast.
Update 2008/11/04: Fixed by commit ca0db5880800b7cff77c0f525d63780a8165b9a4.
PointerFunCBig.avi doesn't get a thumbnail. (sometimes)
No sound in theora.avi. (Maarten gets sound)
On the properties page for videos, the "Movie Rate" (fps) and "Movie Length" fields both show 0. There's no "Movie Info" field to show codec info.
